How I found it

In 2020, I felt motivated to start reading more non-fiction books, especially in the self-help genre. While looking for popular recommendations, I came across this book, along with a few by Brian Tracy.

My thoughts

This book is really solid and has a lot of useful action steps. Its main message-taking small steps and staying consistent-has been explained in more detail in Atomic Habits by James Clear. Since I read this book first in 2020, I found it quite helpful.
I even recommended it to my friend Yash, who’s actually a more avid reader than I am, though he doesn’t usually go for non-fiction.
Even though I liked the book, I didn’t actually do the “Action Steps” exercises in it. That made me feel like maybe it hadn’t influenced me much. But over the years, quotes from the book-like “All winners are trackers.” and “You can do more than expected in every aspect of your life.”-have stayed with me. I didn’t even realise those quote were from this book until I went through my highlights today.
Besides the positives, skimming through it again today, I did feel that the author has a bit of that motivational guru tone. I laughed while reading,

For instance, everyone sends Christmas cards. But, since everyone does, it doesn’t really have much emotional impact, in my opinion. So I choose to send Thanksgiving cards instead. How many Thanksgiving cards do you get? Exactly.

To help you become aware of your choices, I want you to track every action that relates to the area of your life you want to improve. All winners are trackers.

Quote

When conditions are great, things are easy, there aren’t any distractions, no one is interrupting, temptations aren’t luring, and nothing is disturbing your stride; that too is when most everyone else does great. It’s not until situations are difficult, when problems come up and temptation is great, that you get to prove your worthiness for progress.

Now you might be saying, yeah, but she’s Oprah, of course she can do those things. But the truth is there are plenty of others in Oprah’s position—with the finances and the fame—who could do those things, but never venture into the realm of extraordinary. Oprah does. That’s what makes her Oprah. Take a lesson from her. You can do more than expected in every aspect of your life.
